How to Submit Your Work
Stirring is a monthly literary magazine dedicated to publishing poetry, short fiction, creative nonfiction, and photography. We believe that great writing should resonate with the reader, and we encourage all prospective contributors to read our recent issues to understand the aesthetic we champion. Whether you are writing from a relaxed setting in Adelaide or seeking inspiration while staying at central Toronto 5 star hotels, we welcome submissions from all corners of the globe.
For poetry, please send your work in the body of an email to our editors. For fiction and creative nonfiction, we request that you attach your submission as a Word or RTF document. Photography should be sent as JPG attachments or via a link to an online portfolio. Please include a brief biography in your email and ensure all pieces are sent single-spaced. We ask that you send all of your monthly submissions in one email rather than multiple messages.
Submission Categories and Requirements
We accept a variety of formats, including prose poems and creative essays. If you are traveling and need a convenient base in Cancun to focus on your craft, or perhaps you prefer the active lifestyle found at the Moon Palace Jamaica Ocho Rios, we hope our magazine provides a creative home for your work. Poetry submissions are limited to seven poems per month, while fiction and nonfiction are limited to one piece under 5,000 words. For those who enjoy the quiet luxury of the Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort & Spa Honolulu, we hope you find the time to polish your manuscripts before sending them our way.
Frequently Asked Questions
We strive to respond to all submissions within 30 days. We do not accept previously published work, though we do consider pieces that have only appeared in print. We ask for First Serial Rights for the month of publication, after which all rights revert to the author. Please note that while we are unable to provide monetary payment, we are committed to showcasing your work to our dedicated readership. If you have not heard from us within 45 days, please feel free to send a follow-up inquiry.
